A Freeview signal booster is an aerial amplifier that can improve the sound and vision on your digital TV reception if you have a weak signal To get maximum benefit from your Freeview signal booster, it should be fitted as close to your TV aerial as possible instead of behind your TV. If you have an indoor aerial, it's worth installing a loft aerial, or ideally, getting an external aerial fitted on your roof to improve Freeview reception and maximise the Freeview signal booster.

After adjusting or improving your aerial, if you still get a poor reception, then a Freeview signal booster may help, especially with a long cooaxial down lead. If your aerial is in the loft or a roof mounted one enters through the loft, then you should fit the Freeview signal booster in the loft about a metre from the aerial for optimum reception.

Freeview signal boosters should only be used in areas with a poor digital TV reception. Freeview signal boosters will not improve the reception in areas with strong signals nor will they decrease ghosting on analogue TV. In good reception areas, an aerial amplifier will increase the chance of interference and the net result is likely to decrease reception quality.

You should be aware that a Freeview signal booster combined with a poor indoor aerial comes no where near to the quality you will get with a properly fitted and mounted external aerial. It isn't recommended that you connect two or more freeview signal boosters as this might cause a signal overload and be detrimental to your picture quality.

The least effective Freeview signal booster is the cheap 'set back' type. They are connected at your television - between your television and the aerial face plate in your room.

The best type of Freeview Signal Booster is a fully screened digital TV compatible masthead aerial amplifier. This should be installed close to the TV aerial, powered up the coaxial cable by means of a separate masthead power supply unit situated behind your main TV.
