In 1891, Anton and Gerard Philips founded the company Philips and Co. in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. They started out producing carbon-filament lamps and within 20 years were The Netherlands largest employer. In the 1920s, Philips got involved with the first TV experiments and started to produce radios soon becoming the world's leading producer of radios. Philips pioneered many products as the years went by and introduced the compact audio cassette in 1963 and launched the compact disc in 1983. The Dutch giant will consistently be at the forefront of technology for many years to come.
