Sony SAL-1118 DT 11-18mm F4.5-5.6 Super Wide-Angle Lens

This Sony SAL-1118 11-18mm, is a super wide-angle zoom lens that's ideal for landscapes and indoor or architectural shots. The compact DT (Digital Technology) design should only be used on APS-C format cameras because their image circle isn't large enough to fully cover a 35mm full frame sensor. If these are used to full 35mm sensors then you will see a darkening of the image towards the edges of the frame, this is also used in some artistic techniques and called vignetting. This is equivalent to 16.5 - 27mm range in full frame format. This Sony SAL-1118 A-Mounted lens can be mounted onto E-Mount cameras, using an adapter, whereas E-Mount Lenses can not be used with A-Mounted Cameras

The Sony SAL-1118 has a 11-18mm focal length. This will give you a 104-76 degree field of view. Meaning you will be able to fit a lot more into the frame, over a standard lens. This is one of the reasons it is especially good for landscapes or architecture, as to get a lot of detail you will only need 1 shot, whereas with lenses which will not give you a wide viewing angle you will have to stitch together images which in itself will significantly reduce quality. You won't find yourself walking backwards, whilst trying to fit more into the frame.

You will achieve outstanding quality with this Sony SAL-1118 at all focal lengths with aspheric lens elements and ED glass. The minimum aperture of 22-29 will help keep a wide depth of field, so you can ensure you get more in focus, which is especially useful for landscapes with foreground features. Get close up to your subject with a minimum focus distance of 0.25m

This Sony SAL-1118 also comes with a Petal Hood, designed to block out light that comes from outside the framed area. This extra light, from the Sun, reflections, or other light sources will cause certain problems and distortions on your image known as extraneous light. You will notice this as lens flare, or ghosting, quite often caused by light entering the lens at extreme angles and bouncing around inside, degrading the image quality. This should be used is all shooting expect for when an external flash is being used to light close objects or persons.

The circular aperture will give higher quality results, easily noticed when background lights go out of focus, rather then a Hexagonal shape, caused by conventional apertures the Sony SAL-1118 has an almost circular aperture give a much cleaner result, improving your image. Combined with the Aspherical lens elements will minimise distortion and flatness of the image plane.
