- User Review of 32in Samsung Series 5 C580 Review by Hawkes85 All my reviews (1)

So, ive decided to write a review on this TV, i got mine from Littlewoods but there website wont let me write a review so i'll put one on this website.Build Quality Ease Of Use Style / Design Price Overall Value
I did alot of researching before buying it, the most annoying thing was that i couldnt find any reviews or user ratings anywhere for this particular tv and model! i think i found like one user review after searching for at least a few days.
The series 5 is the low to mid range samsung series. The next step up is the 6 series which is when you start getting into the relms of LED screens (google LED Screen if you dont know what i mean) and 100Hz motion technology, but there abit too pricey at the moment.
So,
Design
Beautiful! It starts with a rectangle glass stand and is the colour black to match the tv. Moving up it has a plastic clear neck which connects to the bottom of the tv. The tv itself is glossy black on the front and matt black on the back. Its finished off with a red strip running along the bottom of the tv. One point i will make which no speficiation or reivew i found detailed, but on the bottom right it has touch sentitive controls for changing channel / volume / and power on and off, which is a really nice little feature.
Its all retangular from the front, which is really striking and a nice change from Samsungs previews screens which had the curve at the bottom (i think the 4 series still have the curve).
I will say one thing though, and that is its alot lighter than I thought it was going to be, especially when its not connected to the glass stand. Im not too sure how to take this yet, as a good thing or a bad thing, but just thought it would be worth mentioning.
Picture Quality - Standard Definition
The tv comes with a HD freeview tuner built in. This means you can pick up all of the standard freeviews channels AND the HD channels that are avaialble. You should check the freeview website postal checker to see what channels are avaialble in your area now / future. This is really a must for me as at the end of the day its all going digital soon and i dont like too many different boxes for different things under the tv.
The quality of the picture is a bit dodgey at the moment to be honest. Unfortunatly i need an aerial upgrade to recieve the freeview channels, and at the moment can only recieve the analogue stations. Im not sure how much this affects things but normal tv on certain programs looks kind of muddy and blurred, with colours meshing into each other without any definition. Its not with everything though, for example i tried watching the worldcup semi final last night and i couldnt, it looked horrible, as if the sharpness was turned down to the lowest setting and the colour was turned up to the max! But at the same time i watched a movie through my xbox sky player and it looked fine.
Also note theres alot of different picture adjusting options and i havent really had the time to mess around with anything propley yet so im sure its not a problem.
What i will say is that im not seeing any tearing in the picture or pixalation or blurring anything like that.
Picture Quality - HD
Omg! lol. I can only comment on xbox games at the moment (Until my PS3 comes and i get to try blue ray dvds) but it looks wicked! Everything is so sharp and crystal clear. It really is like night and day seeing standard def and then switching to high def. Uttlerly brilliant! The tv also has an option called "Game Mode", not sure exactly whats so different in this mode but just thought i would mention it.
There is alot of talk out there about how the human eye cant tell the difference between full hd 1080p and 720p (again google if you dont understand) on a 32inch tv, but i can see the difference. Granted no where near a big of a difference between standard def (480) and 720p, but theres definetly a difference there people. This tv is full hd and its great.
I cant wait until my aerial is sorted for my freeview so i can start watching the hd channels. Might even get sky HD just because it looks so good :-)
Sound Quality
I was going to fork out for a full home cinema system because i saw a few people were saying about how the sound is tiny but thats rubbish. The sound on the built in speakers are awsome! Very loud too. I only turn mine up to about 15 out of 100, otherwise its way too loud. So yeah really really good quality. The tv has a few settings for the sound aswell. So you can change the base and stuff depending on what your listening too with the built in sound equalizer settings, so its taylored to the media your listening too such as music or a movie or whatever, which is really nice.
I wont need to be getting that home cinema set now.
Dont get me wrong, if your front room / bedroom is maybe 5 times the size of mine and you set a mile from the tv which requires the volume to be turned up close to its maximum it might be different. But trust me to get anywhere near that you must have one massive room its in!
Input / Features
Really nice for the price, you get 4x HDMI (1x on the side and 3x on the back), 1x scart socket, 1x pc input (so you can use the screen as a massive monitor is you wanted), 1x aerial in, 2x USB slots, 1x tv top up / media card slot, and a couple more things i cant remember.
It has the usbs so you can update the tv firmware and also if you plug in something that has music, photos or movies on it you can watch it look / watch them through yout tv, which is nice.
It has something call Anytime or something. Basicly if you have a samsung dvd player or home cinema system or camera (or pretty much any samsung stuff along those lines) hooked up to the tv, you can control it using the samsung tv remote, so you aint got 2 or 3 remotes lying around for different things. Personnely i think this feature is rubbish as it only works with samsung equipment and i dont intend on buying a samsung dvd player, but for those of you that do i suppose its good to have it there anyway.
As i said above it has HD freeview tuner built in and it has touch sensitive controls on the tv itself which as i said is a nice touch. Generally the tv has alot of settings which i havent got my head around yet, but theres alot you can do to change the way the picture looks or the sound.
Also the stand its on is a swival stand which is nice, so you dont have to move the whole tv if you need to turn it slightly, you can just turn it and the tv will move but the stand will stay in its original position.
Lastly on features, if your bothered about being eco friendly and stuff, it complies with the eco friently electronic legislation for 2010, so its basicly made and built in an eco friendly way and also has a few settings so it doesnt waste electricty, such as an auto bright blacklight option. So, for example if the light in the room dictates that you dont really need to have the full backlight maxed on its highest setting, it will automaticly turn it down a bit so its more energy efficient. I personnlly couldnt care less about this kind of thing but again its worth mentioning.
Negatives
Theres not a lot but there is a couple of things. Firstly the lack of an internet tv feature which is becoming more and more common place now. Also at the end of the day, as good as it is, it still is an LCD screen, so you will see a difference in contrast and picture when looking at it from different angles.
Well thats pretty much it on the negatives, like i said there wasnt alot, to be honest it seems to do the basics so well it ends up just coming down to some presonnel preferences.
Summary
Great tv for the price. The new 2010 model "C" is really nice (A and B models are 2008 and 2009 models) with some really nice design touches. Its not as feature packed as the more expensive tv's, but it does all the basics right. One point i will make which i havent above is that its is just that standard 60hz display rate and doesnt have any of this 100hz stuff. That being said it doesnt need it. Trust me, i havent really noticed any motion blur at all, like i said it does all the basics right.
Would i buy it again, yes i would. Performance wise its a great all rounder and to look at its fantastic! (Posted on 7 July 2010)
