Tech News: Samsung Launch Super Ultra HD at CES 2015
Samsung has announced a new range of TVs they are calling SUHD, we’re assuming that means Super Ultra HD of some sort.
They unveiled the 88-inch JS9500 TV, powered by they own, eco-friendly nano-crystal display technology and intelligent SUHD re-mastering engine. They tell us that the screen delivers superior picture quality with stunning contrast, striking brightness, spectacular colour and superb UHD detail.
Delving deep into SUHD technology is the nano-crystal semiconductor. This transmits different colours of light depending on their size to produce the highest colour purity and light efficiency available today. This technology produces a wide range of more accurate colours, providing viewers with up to 64 times more colour than conventional UHD TVs. Sony have had something for the last couple of years called Triluminos display which does the same thing. Until we get these bad boys side-by-side we won’t know if this new Samsung technology pays off or not.
Next Samsung has a new re-mastering engine that automatically analyses the brightness of images to minimise additional power consumption while displaying stunning contrast levels. The net result is the televisions will product images with much darker blacks and an elevated brightness two-and-a-half times brighter than standard LED TVs with twice the colour adjustment points.
Samsung is partnering with 20th Century Fox, so that it can deliver content to SUHD TVs in the best quality ever.
Renowned Hollywood colourist Stephen Nakamura explained to the press conference the importance of SUHD’s colour. “Colour really sets the tone for a movie. It can completely change the mood and the feel,” said Nakamura, who has worked on X-Men, Days of Future Past, Quantum of Solace and Exodus. “I recently re-mastered Exodus for the SUHD TV, and the experience was incredible. It really brought the film to life in ways I never thought possible.”
“Samsung is advancing UHD to the next-generation viewing experience, bringing never-before-seen-on-TV colours come to life in your home,” said Joe Stinziano, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics America.
Yves Behar also has collaborated with Samsung as they unveiled a new 82-inch S9W TV. It’s an exquisitely curved panel that sits on a metallic cube, reminiscent of a sculpture, giving any living room the ambience of an art gallery.
